About Paul Hicks

Paul Hicks

Figure Designer

Paul Hicks is a traditional tabletop figure sculptor who has been creating miniatures for over 20 years. He began his career as a hobby sculptor, but his work quickly gained the attention of the wargaming community.

He has since sculpted figures for a variety of companies including, but not exclusively, Empress Miniatures, Brigade Games, Footsore Miniatures & Games and Steel Fist Miniatures. He was also a co-founder of Bolt Action Miniatures.

Paul's sculpting process begins with research. Historical references, photographs and contemporary material all help shape the finished figure before the sculpting begins.

His work is known for its character, detail and realism. He pays close attention to proportion, movement, equipment and clothing, with the aim of creating figures that feel believable on the tabletop rather than simply technically accurate.

Paul also creates custom figures for collectors and charity.

Keeping Traditional Sculpting Alive

Paul Hicks Miniatures is a home for my own sculpting projects and for miniatures I have created for other ranges over the years.

I sculpt traditionally, by hand, using putty and sculpting tools rather than working digitally. It is the way I have always worked and it shapes the character, movement and personality I try to put into every miniature.

I want the site to be more than somewhere to buy miniatures. I want to share how I work, the tools and techniques I use and some of the thinking behind the figures, and hopefully help people create hobby projects that are uniquely their own.

Companies I work with

Alongside Paul Hicks Miniatures, I am part of Warhost and continue to sculpt for a number of other companies across the historical and fantasy miniature hobby.
